Today I found out that I will not make it into the top 5:

I regret to inform you that we are unable to admit you to the Ph.D. in Machine Learning program at Carnegie Mellon. We received nearly 1600 applications this year…

Frankly, I was not expecting this. But I guess I can accept it as, say, just another fact of life. CMU and UCB were long shots. Specially with my GRE verbal score.

I can still make it into the top 10, keeping my fingers crossed.

I was totally expecting this. Not really feeling bad or anything.
